Hoa Binh And The Forgotten Highway 6
Located approximately 80 km southwest of Hanoi, Hoa Binh is one of the most interesting destinations for a short motorcycle adventure from the capital. The area is famous for its enormous hydroelectric project, which was once the largest hydroelectric plant in Vietnam before the completion of the Son La hydroelectric project.
After the hydroelectric dam was completed, sections of the original Highway 6 were replaced by a newer route. Some of the old road remains quiet and largely forgotten, creating an interesting opportunity for motorcycle riders who want to explore the old Highway 6 and travel away from the main tourist routes.
Riding this historic road allows us to discover beautiful mountain scenery and visit Thai and Muong ethnic villages around Hoa Binh. Duong Lam Ancient Village & Ba Vi Mount – The Most Popular Around Hanoi Motorbike Tours
Located approximately 40 km southwest of Hanoi, near Son Tay, Duong Lam Ancient Village is one of the most interesting cultural destinations for a day trip from Hanoi. On 19 May 2006, Duong Lam became Vietnam’s first officially recognized ancient village at the national level.
The village provides an excellent opportunity to explore traditional Vietnamese architecture and rural life. We can walk through its narrow lanes, visit ancient houses and temples, and meet local residents who still live in many of these historic homes.
Duong Lam is home to approximately 800 traditional houses, some of which are several centuries old. Two of the best-known attractions are Mong Phu Temple and Mia Pagoda (Sung Nghiem Tu). Mong Phu Temple is located in the heart of the ancient village, while Mia Pagoda sits on a small hill in Dong Sang Hamlet.
The village is also associated with two important Vietnamese historical figures, Phung Hung and Ngo Quyen, who were both born in the region. Visiting the temples dedicated to these historical kings adds another fascinating layer to the experience.
The cultural experience is complemented by the ride itself. Before reaching Duong Lam, we travel through the lush green countryside around Son Tay, following quieter local roads that provide a pleasant contrast to Hanoi’s busy streets.
For riders looking for a little more adventure, we can continue toward Ba Vi Mountain and climb the winding mountain road toward the higher elevations.
